Global Environmental Change is defined as the changes in the physical and biological status of the environment. Disbalance in the global environment is generally influenced by certain human activities which degrade the healthy surrounding suitable for living. The causes are fossil fuel combustion, deforestation, urbanization, intensive farming, freshwater extraction, fishier overexploitation, waste production and many more. The greenhouse effect is one of the things that makes Earth a comfortable place to live but human activities have already created a vast change, causing an increase in greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide gases, etc.)  which traps the heat in the earth atmosphere. It is also being observed that there is a gradual increase in the Earth’s Average Temperature. The glaciers are melting, animals are migrating, phenology of trees has altered, like early flowering. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) consists of more than thousands of scientists who have forecast the necessary information towards the rise in global atmospheric change. IPCC predicts that an increase in Global mean temperature of less than 1.8 to 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit above 1990 levels will be beneficial as well as harmful depending on the region. As per the recent update the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has exceeded 415 parts per million (ppm), reached 415. 26 ppm for the first time in human history, accord to the sensors at Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. The carbon pollution in the atmosphere soared past 400ppm in 2016, 410 ppm in 2017.

The Ecosystem can be described as the entire living and non- living organisms, biotic and abiotic interacting with each other through nutrient cycles and energy flows. Ecosystem Management is a process to conserve the ecological system and restore natural resources while meeting social, political and cultural needs. The Ecosystem Management should improvise with time and maintain or improve the ecosystem and should provide a variety of goods and services to present and future generations. The ecosystem is wiled or managed ecosystem, based on the amount of human influence in the ecosystem. The wild ecosystem is mostly free of human influence like forest and wildlife reserve whereas wildlife ecosystem is actively managed by Humans like parks and gardens in the middle of the city and farms. Both ecosystems are equally important, but human prefers towards managed ecosystem because they allow us to manipulate the ecosystem to maximize Human benefits. Ecosystem management is achieved by a variety of measures including control burn, pesticides application, selected harvesting as per the availability of certain resources. In all these cases the actual cause is to prevent or achieve a specific goal. The two most common type of ecosystem management is forestry and agriculture. Forestry is to grow a managed forest so that wood and other resources can be harvested over a long period of time or maybe a decade and often provide shelter to the species such as an endangered bird that can be protected and conserved for the future generation. In agriculture, the primary goal is to grow crops that are at least harvested annually. In contrast, the forestry usually manages for the benefits of several species, but the agriculture is managed for the benefit of single species. Regardless of the habitat type and end goal we must appreciate that the Ecosystem Management plays a large part in our society.

Climate Change refers to the change in the Earth climate system due to Human activities. Heatwaves to hurricanes, draughts to floods extreme weather events are becoming more frequent which are putting lives at high risk and which are definitely causing the extinction of many species. Human activities are causing our Climate to change, The CO2 emission from cars, industries and power plants leading to the increase of greenhouse effect, resulting are heating up our planet, an increase of Earth's atmospheric temperature. As the greenhouse effect is to make the life comfortable but due to the increase in the greenhouses in the atmosphere, the Earth atmosphere traps more than the requisite amount of heat needed. To prevent further dangerous levels of climate change, countries around the world signed the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement aims to keep global warming below 2 degrees to stop the planet getting warmer. We need to reduce the use of fossil fuels and increase the use of renewable energy, like wind and low carbon sources. Climate Change is everyone’s responsibility Governments, Business, Communities, Individuals. The actions we can take is to reduce our carbon footprint, like investing in green technologies which can also reduce costs and create job opportunities. The risks and cost of inactions are too high to ignore, so it’s the right time to act.

Climatology is also known as climate science; it is the scientific study of climate or the weather pattern and its causes. It is a branch of physical geography in which we study systematic and scientific approaches of climate variation, climate change and interaction with biosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. Climate can be defined as a long-term condition of the atmosphere and Weather is the short-term condition of the atmosphere. There are elements and factors which the climatologist uses to determine the climate condition.

Temperature- How hot and cold the atmosphere is and how many degrees it is below or above.

Humidity- It is the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere.

Precipitation- It is the product of rapid condensation process.

Atmospheric pressure- It is the weight of air resting on the earth’s surface.

Wind- The movement of air masses, especially on the Earth’s surface is recorded.

Factors which influence the climate are the distance from the sea, ocean currents, direction of the prevailing winds, the shape of the land, distance from the equator and Human activities.

There are some domain and subdomain as well like Physical Climatology, Regional Climatology, Applied Climatology, Micro- Climate, Eco-climate, Geo-climate.

It is very much like the Meteorology, but there is a difference - Climatologist examines the long-term weather patterns and trends such as temperature change, water and ice levels, drought and flood pattern, and their range of impact concerns globally. Whereas Meteorology examines short-term weather patterns and its causes and impact concern to the small areas.

Global warming is a continuous rise in the average temperature of the Earth Climate System. Human activities are leading the expansion of greenhouse effect since the mid-20th century. Burning of fossil fuel like petroleum, coal, household products, etc. are the major causes contributing to air pollution which increases the number of greenhouse gases in the air. The earth’s temperature has rapidly increased since the Industrial Age. Although global warming is a natural event, it's majorly contributed by humans. It's very necessary to act upon it otherwise the Earth will soon become very hot for comfortable living and we are already experiencing the long warm summer sessions and short warmer winter sessions. The tropical storms are getting more destructive than before and the frequent natural event can be experienced as well. The basic cause is the increase in the greenhouse effect. The enhance contribution by the humans that are adding the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. More specifically the greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. These gases actually help to regulate the temperature of the earth. Since the industrial revolution has significantly enhanced the greenhouse effect causing the earth temperature to rise up almost 2 degrees and change global climate change.  The gradual rise in temperature is impacting the marine life causing coral bleach due to acidification, rise in sea level by melting glaciers, weather, tropical cyclone, drought, heat waves, and floods. Many species on the earth are in the endangered category and if global warming is not controlled soon, it will be the beginning of extinction.

Earth’s atmosphere consists of many different layers. The ozone layer lies between troposphere and stratosphere. Ozone is mostly concentrated in the stratosphere but further, it is divided into two types of bad ozone and good ozone. Ozone is an allotrope of oxygen and has three oxygen atoms. Ozone layer works as a protective layer of the Earth which restricts or protect the ultraviolet radiation from the sun to penetrate the earth atmosphere and reach the earth’s surface. The pollutants like CFC’s, oxides of nitrogen hydrocarbons cause the depletion of the ozone layer this phenomenon of gradual depletion of the ozone layer is known as Ozone layer depletion. The depletion of the ozone layer will allow the UV rays to reach the earth surface impacting directly and indirectly, the ozone absorbs heat from the sun resulting in increase in temperature in the stratosphere and on the other side due to greenhouse gases in the atmosphere there will be huge change in temperature which leads to failure in rainfall on the earth. 1% of ozone depletion will increase the radiation by 2%. There will be serious cases of skin cancer, cataracts, genetic disorders. Indirectly it will impact plants in their growth process and reduce in chlorophyll content, increase mutation, disturbance in the ecological balance.

Greenhouse gas emission, Climate change, and Global warming are the alarming danger faced by the whole world. Land clearing, Intensive farming, burning fossil fuels like oil, natural gas and coal are resulting in global warming. Carbon dioxide is produced by various sources like decaying of plants, vehicles, the increase in population and to meet its energy demand a large number of fossil fuels are used to generate energy which in result releases carbon dioxide. These human activities are producing a huge amount of greenhouse gases. Initiatives have been taken to slow down and reverse global warming and gases like CO2. There are alternatives like Solar energy, Wind energy and other renewable energy which is a best option to control the Climate change, but the process needs time and currently, it cannot replace the oil and gas industry instantly. So, we must use and develop fossil fuel in a cleaner and more environmental way. Hence the Carbon capture and storage also known as CCS will allow us to do that. The process of capturing waste carbon dioxide from power plants, cement factories, etc. compressed in high pressure which will convert it into a liquid and store it in the underground geological formation so that it cannot be released into the atmosphere is known as carbon capture. The technology used for carbon dioxide separation is pre-combustion CO2 capture, post-combustion CO2 capture, and Oxyfuel. There are hundreds of carbon captive and storage projects worldwide. We all know that burning fossil fuel is way more dangerous and the current way of generating energy needs to be changed which is causing harm to our environment and climate. The majority of energy is produced by the burning of fossil fuel and the large power plants. In the future, the scenario will be different there will be thousands of small-scale producers of low-cost renewables and this will bring a new trend like every people will generate and trade their energy locally. The big powerhouse will be only 50% efficient as they lose a major part of the energy as heat due to the transfer of energy through a power line to distant areas.

Internet of Energy is a connected digital system in order to control how and when the energy is used or stored so that the internet will help to balance supply and demand. The modern appliances such as dishwasher, air conditioner, TV, etc. are already in the process to be interconnected and that clearly indicates that they can be programmed to either use or not use energy according to the users will. The use of energy will be so advanced that it can control automatically the supply. The smart future energy system will be another revolution after industrial.

Energy consumption is a huge part of our daily lives, we eat, travel and work with energy. We produce most of the energy with coal, oil, natural gas also known as fossil fuels and rest of the sources like Nuclear Energy, Biomass Energy and Renewable Energy. As the name suggests the energy is generated from the renewable sources which can be regenerated or are inexhaustible sources of energy because the energy can be produced from these sources until the indefinite amount of time. The Renewable Energy sources are Sunlight, Wind, Rain, Tide, waves, and Geothermal.

These alternative energy sources are a very familiar word, we have been taught about this in our school age almost 15 years ago or more. But it is not growing as fast as our planet needs it to. Climate change is a real threat and in order to preserve our species, we must switch our energy sources with Renewable alternatives as the technology is expensive and constantly developing. Well as per the data, China is the country that is most into Renewable energy and has invested a lot in wind turbines with creating many job opportunities. While India and the US are holding the second and the third position respectively. The future of Renewable Industry is worth around $300 Billion opening a new marketplace to invest in Green Energy. Facebook is one of the renowned companies that announced that all of its data centers and offices will be working in 100% renewable energy by 2020.

Sustainable or Sustainability have many different definitions with different views, there is no universal agreed definition for it. In a broad view, Sustainability is utilizing the resources of the planet in a balanced and organized way without damaging the environment now or in the future. There should be three things to be kept in mind Social progress, economic development, and safeguarding our climate and environment. These three things should work equally to attain sustainable development. The ecosystem has to be managed in order to live. The climate system is one of them, this system is to ensure the temperature is correct and that atmosphere is making the right amount of solar energy. We have already increased the production of CO2 gases since industrial and power plants advancement is overheating the atmosphere, which is not a good condition for us or other species in the earth to live. This will affect our planet and affect our development. Hence, it very important to rectify the methods of producing energy. Coal and oil are examples which may run out of soon in the future. Whereas water, waves, geothermal, sunlight is the best alternative source of energy and are clean and green energy. The effectively we use the natural resources and better system we create for fair distribution the more sustainable we will be. There is a very simple way to start contribution is to be aware of the things we purchase and how it is produced. We, humans, are also the part of nature and an important resource for the world cause as our mind will bring out the innovative and creative things, to be the best version of ourselves. There must be certain things put into order like having equal opportunity, safety, food, medicine, etc. which will provide the best opportunity as a human being and for the planet. Hence these things must work together and equally in the balanced way which defines sustainable development. To meet the needs of future generation without compromising and also meeting the needs of the present generation is the only way of further development.

Green Energy and Green Technology-

On February 2019 the world population exceeded 7.71billion and it is continuously growing. In another perspective, more lands will be used for shelter for humans, more demand for energy, more waste, and pollution, over-exploitation of natural resources, etc. With this fast-growing population, every individual expects clean water, healthy food, clean air, and clean energy. The new innovations with upgrading technologies can help humans manage to produce more with fewer resources. It is the technology, which is environmentally friendly, developed and used in the way without altering the environment in present or future and conserve the natural resources. The green technology is the system that uses innovative methods to create an environmentally friendly product using renewable natural resources that never depletes so that future generation can also utilize and seek the benefits from it. It will effectively decrease the waste produced in various way with less pollutant will be released in the Ecosystem. It consists of goals like Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, Renew and Responsibility. The green technology consists of various sub-domains like Green Chemistry or Sustainable Chemistry, Green Energy, Green IT or Green Computing, Green Building, Green Nanotechnology. Waste Management -

The activity or action to manage the waste is called Waste Management. The management includes the collection of waste materials from household to business, then it is sorted to obtain the recyclable materials, using scientific techniques, they are cleaned and processed into high-quality material like paper bundles, plastic pallets, and chips. The bundles are sold to producers, processors who manufacture consumer goods that re-enter the marketplace. But there is still some garbage which cannot be recycled and doesn’t have any demand in the market which is transported to the burial or dumping ground. The massive basin is filled and has been lined with clay and a huge impermeable membrane made from high- density polyethylene and geotextile. This lining acts a bit like giant plastic container preventing waste from the contaminating the surrounding soil and water table. Almost half of the waste is organic material like rotten vegetables and other foods and as it decomposes, it generates a huge amount of combustible gases, so the waste is permanently layered with soil and then with technology and different method the methane gas is extracted to generate electricity to more than six thousands of homes and some of the methane is also turned to liquid natural gas to be used in vehicles.

Computational Science is an area of study centered on applying techniques for computing and managing data to research in many disciplines. It involves many scientists from different background undertaking researches in diverse fields. The scientist uses computational data to simulate phenomena that would otherwise be cost prohibitive or just not possible to experimentally study. The vast amount of data is also used to analyze like studying posts in social media to understand human society. Study the movement of polar bears, penguin and other wild species in the Antarctic to gauge their response to climate change. The computational science will help to collaborate various field of scientist to seek help to compute the vast amount of data from the environment as machine data like sensors, traditional ecological fieldwork data, scientist hypothesis, lab notebook, etc. and utilize it to mix together to achieve the goal in a wider and global perspective. It is impossible to carry on with a notebook and analyses it, however, it requires computational methods, Applied Maths, Computer Science to work excel with and get the end result.
